Wedding Diary | Part 1 : The Morning Of + First Looks

o6/04/2022 - A day I could relive over and over again.

Getting Ready

My bridesmaids and I had a slow morning at my parent’s house drinking mimosas & plenty of coffee. We began getting our hair done at the house before making our way to the venue to finish getting ready. My aunt did my hair, which was so special! While getting my hair done, I finished writing personalized letters to each of my parents and my soon to be hubby! I waited to write these the day of because I wanted the letters to truly capture how I was feeling in that current moment - boy, did I have to hold back tears!

I started the morning in this cute romper and paired it with this adorable, feathered robe with floral appliqués. I had seen a similar robe on Etsy and fell in love, but this one was a fraction of the cost. These Mrs. J slippers were also such a fun (and comfy) touch! I gifted my bridesmaids dusty blue robes to wear while we were getting ready, along with small jewelry boxes, which I added their initials to with pearl earrings inside. After hair and makeup were finished, we had a few photos taken, popped a bottle of champagne, and then it was time to start getting dressed!

Getting into Dress w/ Mom

This was a moment I have dreamt about my entire life - getting to put on my wedding dress with my mom! Let me just tell ya, we both were a wreck and could barely hold it together. Being the only daughter, my mom and I have such a special bond. She truly is my best friend! Since my mom was the only person who came wedding dress shopping with me, putting on “the dress” again with just her felt like such a full-circle moment. I gave her the letter I wrote for her while getting ready that morning and we just soaked up the quiet moment together just the two of us.

The blue ring I was wearing was my “something blue!” It was gifted to me by my great grandma. It was a gift to her from my great grandpa and she wore it every single day. I admired it on her finger all growing up.

The Bridesmaids

While I was getting ready with my mom, my friends put on their bridesmaid dresses and then it was time for their first look. Only a few of my friends had seen a picture of my wedding dress, so I could not wait to see their reactions. There truly is something so special about having all of your best girl friends from all of your different life stages together in one place! My photographer was able to capture such a sweet moment with my MOH, Haley. We have been best friends since pre-school and I will cherish this photo forever.

Father of the Bride

Another one of my favorite moments from the day was my first look with my dad! This was another tough moment to hold back my tears. I am such a daddy’s girl at heart & I swear mine is truly the best.

Brothers of the Bride

After the first look with my dad, I spontaneously decided to do a first look with my two brothers and I am so glad I did! Such a fun moment.

"The" First Look

My final “first-look” moment was with my hubby-to-be, Trevor! I went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to save our first-look for the alter, or share a personal moment before. I ultimately decided I didn’t want to have to wait all day to see him and the more time we were able to spend together on our wedding day, the better! I am so thankful I made this decision. I remember walking down to where he was standing and having so many butterflies, but his moment was so special and hugging him took away so many of my nerves. We each had written short letters that we read to each other. As you can see in our video here, I couldn’t even get through the first few words without sobbing. I didn’t tell Trevor he would be mic’d up by our videographers, so in true Trevor-fashion, his letters to me contained an expletive, which didn’t make its way onto the video, but was a funny moment for us to remember. After sharing our letters, we were able to take some photos together before the ceremony began.
